We just received confirmation from Heikki Sorsa that he has signed with Weekend Snowboards and Bond Outerwear.
The two brands will make their debut in stores this fall. Based in
Laguna Beach, Ca., the companies were started by Christian Didrichsen
and Dan McNamara.
As for Sorsa joining the team, Didrichsen
tells us that, "Heikki and I have been friends for years, he's from
Finland and so am I. We've been talking for a few months now, and it
all just fell into place."
Sorsa, who for his entire snowboarding
career had ridden for Burton Snowboards and its outerwear brand Analog,
was suddenly dropped from the team this past season. "Burton just let
me go," says the 26-year-old Fin. "It came out of nowhere for me and I
had been riding for them my whole life!" He added: "No hard feelings
though."
When asked how he came to hook up with Weekend and Bond,
he says, "It just came about because I know those guys really well.
They asked me to come aboard and I said for sure! There were some other
brands [under consideration], but I felt the best going with these
guys. I am really stoked to ride for them—it's going to be a good time
in my snowboard career."
Sorsa will join Mark Carter on the Weekend team, who will debut his pro model this fall. On Bond, he will join Capita pro TJ Schneider.
At
present, Weekend Snowboards has only a splash page for a website, but
Didrichsen tells us a full site will launch during the first week of
August. As well, The 2009-10 Bond Outerwear website will launch by the
end of July.
