What’s up with your name?
My mom didn’t want to switch her last name. But I’m down for Jake OE. That’s hard to mess up.
What’s the best thing about growing up in Minnesota?
Cold beer, hot summers, 17,000 lakes, and chicks that just look hot.
And the worst? It gets real cold in the winter.
How’d you first get sponsored?
Mike Thienes from The Youth Shelter Supply was my first sponsor because
he makes the Bald E-Gal films, which are soo sick. He got me in contact
with the guys over at Signal.
Who’s the gnarliest rail dog these days?
Ethan Deiss. He kills everything and has dope style. Watch the new Role Model video—he’ll for sure have first or last part.
Why do we keep hearing that you’re huge in Korea? Rumor or reality?
Rumor. Check houseof1817.blogspot.com.
When’s the last time you got a haircut?
Three years ago, but I might switch things up in a bit. Who knows?
Which snowboarders do you look up to most?
Easy, anyone who still makes edits with a GL2 and fisheye.
You filmed with Videograss last year, how’d that go? Can we expect to see any pow or is it all street parts?
VG is VG. It’s just sick. There’s mad powder in the video, but none in my part.
Are all of Ashbury’s riders really just wanna-be skateboarders?
Maybe in a way, because snowboarding is dead right now and
skateboarding is hot right now. They just want to bring life back into
snowboarding. No more dolly cams and fartsy shots. Fisheyes and booze
are way more fun.
“The dude rips. Snowboarding needs more kids like Jake to make up for some of the coolness it’s lacking today.” — Darrell Mathes
